Many are talking about the newest Alessandra de Rossi film, “12”, because of its interesting yet heartbreaking plot. In the movie, she was joined by showbiz newcomer from the Padilla clan, Ivan Padilla.
Fresh from the success of blockbuster hit “Kita Kita”, many expect Alessandra’s “12” to be just as good. And it didn’t disappoint.
An advanced screening of the film was held at Cine Adarna in UP Diliman last October 30. It was a full-house and the audience’s reception to “12” was positive. Yesterday, November 6, a special celebrity screening was done in Cineplex 10, Gateway Mall. It was attended by some of the important people who worked behind the camera. Celebrities such as Ana Capri, Carla Humphries, Rita Daniela, and Donnalyn Bartolome were also present during the said event.
Alessandra has already provided 12 reasons to watch “12”. Now, we will tell you twelve things we loved about “12”.
1. The concept is very relatable, even by those who aren’t in a relationship.
Most of us have experienced being hurt by those we love the most. Whether you’re in a relationship or not, the concept of getting hurt isn’t new.
You might see yourselves in the characters of Anton and Erika. Their fights are so realistic, you will find yourself absorbed in the story thinking what you did when you had the same fight with your special someone. If you don’t have a girlfriend/boyfriend/fling/almost gf/bf, the “hugot” will still hit you. It will make you imagine the things that could happen or could have happened.
2. The official theme song of “12” adds to the pain delivered by the movie.
I was chasing you/ Was I breaking you/ Under this mess we’re in I found/ Your lifeless body on the ground/ My fingerprints were all around/ I was the one who took you down
‘Nuff said.
3. The best pizza delivery boy in the world.
What a sweet surprise to have a cameo by someone special! You have to watch the film to find out who the pizza delivery boy is.
4. We get to see Alessandra’s versatility as an artist.
She wrote the film she starred in. She made the music.
There’s something about performing her own piece that made us see Alessandra’s raw emotions. Truly, she’s one of those people who can basically do anything. She will even try directing next year!
5. Ivan is too cute, you just can’t stay mad at him.
We understood Erika when she said she couldn’t stay mad at Anton for a long time.
Just look at this face!
6. The shots are all beautiful.
Almost all the scenes were taken in a single location: the house of the couple. This fact doesn’t reduce the beauty of the film. Instead, the framing of each scene was done with the utmost detail and symmetry and the continuity and transitions were so smooth, the way it showed on the big screen was nothing less than perfect.
7. The non-linear plot was designed carefully to make us want answers.
“12” is not your regular film. You will not see how they fell apart as the days go by. However, it will lead you to the details of their relationship in a back and forth manner to fully understand their situation. It might be confusing at first but the more the story delves into the dark corners of their love, the more you’ll understand the need of a non-linear plot.
8. The idea of a couple living in together is normal, even in the Philippines.
Many are raising their eyebrows on some couples’ decision to bypass marriage by living in together. Being a traditional country who values marriage in the family, some do not understand why others do it.
There are people who want to test the waters before diving in and there are some who can’t even afford to swim. Whatever their reason is, we can only offer understanding and respect on other people’s decisions. Their life, their choice.
Come on guys, it’s 2017!
9. Your frustration will grow as the tension arises.
This movie is not for the weak. It will hurt you over and over again. You will get more and more frustrated with the characters, the movies, and your life.
Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
10. Words are poison, words are bullets.
This movie made us realize the importance of words in our everyday life and how good communication is the key to a successful relationship.
The words we throw around so carelessly can hurt other people. Words can make a relationship, but it can also break it.
11. The bittersweet tone of the movie is well-balanced.
Good things can make you cry. Sad things can make you smile.
The highs and lows of Anton and Erika’s relationship is a good combination for the overall feels of “12”.
12. It’s okay to love yourself.
The ending might be bittersweet but it will leave you with a message you can reflect on.
You might find yourself agreeing more to Erika than to Anton or the other way around. If you ever experience what happened to them, always remember what “12” tells us.
Sometimes, you have to lose yourself to make you find yourself. You may be the kind of person who gives everything for love, but never ever forget to leave some for the captain of your life— you.
Now we can’t wait for you to feel what we felt while watching this heartbreaking movie!
Don’t forget to catch “12” in cinemas nationwide starting tomorrow, November 8!
