It has been nearly twenty years since Joey Albert left her successful singing career to make a home for her family in Vancouver, British Columbia. But as the old saying goes, once an artist, always an artist and Joey has never been able to completely leave the limelight.

So whenever her schedule permits, Joey would come home and once more be a star. She would do shows, like Legends of OPM with Rico Puno, Rey Valera, Nonoy Zuniga, Claire de la Fuente and Eva Eugenio early this year or Incomparable with Basil Valdez, and during one recent visit to record an album.
Launched late last year, the CD is titled Music Of The Heart and it is made up of original Filipino compositions. "I recorded songs that are my personal favorites and hits that came out after I had left," says Joey. "It was a discovery experience because there were songs I did which I had never heard of. I was really very happy to know that we have so many new composers who have this unique, very modern sound."

Among the songs included is Kahit Isang Saglit by Louie Ocampo. "I recorded many songs by Louie but not this one and people always request me to do this. Also quite special is Side A's Forevermore which was composed by Joey Benin. "I was very happy when Side A recorded one of my hits Tell Me some years ago. So singing Forevermore is like my way of paying tribute to them." She also specifically requested for Special Memory by Iwi Laurel and Minsan Pa by Janet Basco, which she had always wanted to record.

Produced by Eugene Villaluz for Viva Records, Music Of The Heart also includes Kahit Kailan by South Border; The Way You Look at Me by Christian Bautista; Muntik Na Kitang Minahal by Company; Kung Ako Na Lang Sana by Bituin Escalante; You'll Be Safe Here by Rico Blanco; Saan Ka Na Kaya Ngayon by Anna Fegi; Stay by Cueshe; Kung Nasaan Ka Man by Martin Nievera; I Believe in Dreams by Janno Gibbs; and the carrier single Rainbow also by South Border.
"I had never heard of Rainbow before," says Joey. "I didn't know it was such a big hit. It was one of my surprises while doing the album. I was so glad I got the chance to record such a beautiful song."

Joey is in town to spend the holidays with her family. She returns to Vancouver next week. fans can catch her perform songs from Music Of The Heart at the Podium in Ortigas Center at 5:PM on Saturday, January 9.
